Around 20 years ago, I photographed a vannløper (water strider) skimming across the calm surface of the River Glomma. I later submitted the image to an NRK photo competition and promptly forgot all about it. Weeks later, while on holiday at our mountain cabin, we happened to switch on the TV – and there was my photo being featured as Dagens bilde (Picture of the Day) on the national news! It was a proud moment for a very young photographer and a reminder of the joy in capturing and sharing nature’s small wonders.
The image was officially featured as Dagens bilde by NRK, Norway’s national public broadcaster, back in May 2010. You can still find it archived here.
